Summary
Learn several techniques and principles that push the limits of a PDF to increase the user's individual control beyond alt-text. This session examines a "good, better, best" journey for a complex infographic.
Abstract
This session will examine a single water lifecycle graphic in several different ways that present an increasingly better and more independent user experience. We start with simple alt-text and how this might technically be compliant but presents the user with the word "graphic" more than 30 times between the words of the description. We then discuss several ways to create the infographic using various combinations of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Word and PowerPoint. Each method, along with the benefits and drawbacks of each, will be discussed. Attendees will leave this session with a firm understanding of what impacts the level of interactivity as well as key concepts for designing complex infographics with accessibility in mind.
