Learn about examples and techniques you can use in your own classrooms (programming, design, testing, etc.) to best prepare your students to create inclusive experiences that not only increase their employability after graduation, but also motivate them to create innovative breakthroughs in making technology work better for everyone.

Larry Goldberg
Larry is Senior Director of Accessible Media at Oath (the company formed by Verizon's acquisition of Yahoo in June of 2017 and the subsequent merger of AOL and Yahoo brands). In this role, he is responsible for assuring that Oath's many media offerings are as accessible as possible to people with disabilities, starting with closed captioning of thousands of videos hosted on our mobile apps and web sites. Oath produces dozens of original programs - most of which are captioned - and provides captions for thousands of partner videos, including content from the New York Times, CNBC, AP, Reuters, MLB, NFL, movie trailers, the Condé Nast brands and more.
Larry joined Yahoo/Oath in June of 2014, having previously worked at WGBH Boston, where he founded and directed its National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM). NCAM focused on research and development, public policy initiatives and strategic partnerships for global impact on inclusive media and technology. Larry was directly involved in such ground-breaking legislation as the TV Decoder Circuitry Act, The Telecommunications Act of 1996 and the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act. He led efforts to create standards adopted by media organizations and the FCC to implement legislated mandates for accessible technology.
Mary Bellard
Mary Bellard is the Senior Accessibility Architect at Microsoft. There, she leads the accessibility innovation program to bring more inclusive and revolutionary ideas to market.
Previously, she strategized the overall accessibility training curriculum for employees and external partners to drive progress in usable experiences for everyone. Mary played a key role in developing the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk when she joined the company in 2014 and has worked as an advocate for the disability community for more than 9 years.
Mary co-leads the Materials Task Force for Teach Access, which is working to include accessibility and universal design principles in the curricula of computer scientists, designers and researchers. She holds a dual certification from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals, whose objective is to help those working in accessibility develop and advance their careers.
Mary is originally from Brooklyn, NY and loves running with her dog. She is motivated by the exciting opportunities a career in the accessibility field has afforded her to help technology reach more people.
