Summary
While many educators are aware of digital accessibility barriers and believe that best practices are “the right thing to do,” it can still be difficult to drive engagement with many competing priorities. We will share with you our approach to fostering enthusiasm at Carnegie Mellon University. Participants will learn concrete steps that they can apply when working with students, content creators, faculty, and senior leadership to generate buzz around their campus initiatives.

Learn how to: create and implement policy that is understandable and easy for senior leadership to adopt; blend virtual and in-person events for broad engagement, and choose relevant and innovative training topics; build a network of allies across campus through recognizing and incentivizing employee engagement; streamline accessibility efforts through automation and outsourcing.

Speaker Bio(s)
Kimberly Norris
Kimberly Norris is the Digital Accessibility Coordinator at Carnegie Mellon University. She has been recognized by the International Association of Accessibility Professionals as a 2023 Impact Award recipient for her work promoting accessibility awareness and education. Prior to joining CMU, Kimberly’s career included website development and marketing for several higher education and non-profit institutions in the Pittsburgh region. She has been advocating for accessible code and universal design for more than 15 years.
Brian Fodrey
Brian has over 15 years of experience in higher education IT. Having previously served as CIO and Vice Provost at Stevenson University, he is currently the Assistant Vice President for Business Innovation at Carnegie Mellon University. His responsibilities include leading strategic efforts related to enterprise-level process improvements, innovation, organizational efficiency, project management, and digital accessibility. Brian also serves in Board leadership roles for national and local associations focused on organizational effectiveness and digital equity. Brian holds a MS in Organizational Performance from Drake University, and a MEd in Instructional Technology from Kent State University.
