Summary
With Covid-19 shutting down most in-person classes in March 2020, many accessibility teams were scrambling trying to find online accommodations for their students. Remote live captioning was a solution that several schools adopted to help meet student needs quickly. This session will highlight some of those stories and challenges.
Abstract
For many students listening and writing at the same time is difficult. For those with audio processing issues, shorter concentration spans or difficulty in understanding what is being said, it's even more problematic. Live captioning and the accompanying post-lecture transcripts offer students a second chance at learning. It can be delivered to all students in physical classroom and most online learning platforms and meeting tools.
When the Covid-19 forced many classrooms to close back in March 2020, a number of accessibility teams reached out to find out how their students could continue to receive services with a quick, last minute switch to online classrooms.
This session will share stories of four different colleges who are integrating live captioning into different online learning tools like Zoom, Adobe Connect, Blackboard Collaborate, and others.
