“You CAN Create Accessible Math for Students with Print Disabilities” is intended to give you the nuts and bolts of producing math content that is accessible for blind students using screen readers, as well as creating accessible files with math for students with learning disabilities or math disabilities.
This is a “Bring Your Own Device” session, and I wanted to be sure you had a list of the software needed to participate in the course with your device. Production of accessible math requires a Windows-based environment for this presentation. While Mathtype is available for the Mac, the commands are different, and I won’t be covering how to use it in a Mac environment.
Software you will need to work along with us as we create accessible math are:
- Microsoft Word
- MathType – download trial version
- Duxbury Braille Translator – download trial version
- Central Access Reader – download for free here
Practice Files
Key points to be covered during the session:
- Extraction of Word files with Math from original PDF (demonstration)
- Creation of MathType equations in Word.
- Output of MathType Word files to MathML
- Output of MathType Word files to Braille/Braille-Ready Files
