Summary

The speakers will walk the attendees through an array of common accessibility myths, explain why they are deceptive, and elucidate the benefits of incorporating inclusive marketing practices.

Abstract

Accessible content only benefits a small percentage of people, right? Wrong! In this session, we will examine several deeply rooted misconceptions about accessible marketing practices that commonly hinder adoption, highlight the benefits of incorporating inclusive design and take steps to rightfully restore the wrongful reputation of accessibility in the marketing and communications realm.

Jasmine Banks

Chris Aldin is currently a Product Manager with Blackboard Ally where he works with institutions all around the world to create better, more inclusive content for all learners. With an extensive background working in digital education and content after an early consulting career, he is passionate about ensuring that everyone has access to and benefits from the best possible content available.

Prior to joining the Blackboard Ally team, Chris spent almost 7 years in higher education publishing focused on building and designing custom and inclusive digital educational products while managing the production and distribution of some of the largest digital content libraries in North America. This experience, coupled with his passion for inclusive learning, continues to drive Chris forward to deliver impactful products and experiences that increase student success both inside and outside of the classroom.

Jasmine Banks

Jasmine Banks, an experienced marketing professional, is known for creating innovative inbound and outbound marketing strategies, creative problem solving, and crafting simplistic but engaging customer stories. She is currently a Product Marketing Manager for Blackboard Ally, where she helps tout the benefits of creating content with accessibility in mind for learners globally. While her focus is on shifting mindsets around equity and inclusion in the education industry, she’s equally committed to changing how marketing professionals view accessibility by debunking common barriers to inclusive design.

Jasmine earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Florida State University. She is currently completing her master’s degree in Integrated Marketing and Communications at Georgetown University.
