Summary
This session will provide stakeholders with information & personas to provide a humanistic perspective on accessibility best practices and implementation. Attendees will participate in a group discussion creating personas, identify arguments and challenges related to adoption of accessibility best practices, and discuss and craft counterarguments using the developed personas, round table discussion, & research to assist with implementation of accessibility best practices at their institution.
Abstract
Accessibility is the design of products, services, and environments to be usable by as many people as possible, regardless of their abilities. Accessibility best practices are guidelines that can be followed to make products and services more accessible. However, there are also a number of challenges to adopting accessibility best practices, including stakeholder buy-in. Despite the challenges, there are a number of ways to overcome them. This session will provide participants with the knowledge and skills they need to identify arguments and challenges to adopting accessibility best practices. Participants will also learn how to develop a plan to implement counterarguments.
The workshop will include the following interactive activities: 1) Group discussion on the importance of accessibility 2) Creation of accessibility personas that can be used as “demos” 3) Group discussion on the arguments and challenges to implementation of accessibility best practices 4) Brainstorming session on counterarguments to the the aforementioned challenges
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: 1) Identify arguments and challenges to adopting accessibility best practices 2) Develop a plan to implement counterarguments 3) Use accessibility tools and resources to make their products and services more accessible

Lindsay Nichols Foster
Lindsay Foster has over two decades of educational experience as an elementary classroom educator, a technology applications instructor, an instructional technology coach and coordinator, and instructional designer. As an instructional designer, Mrs. Foster specializes in issues related to Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) and Accessibility. She was a TCEA Technology Administrator of the Year finalist in 2021. Additionally she is a Google Certified Trainer, a LEGO Education US Master Educator, Book Creator Ambassador, and BreakoutEDU Trainer. Mrs. Foster has served on the TEA State Board of Education Technology Applications TEKS Review Committee. Mrs. Foster’s speaking engagements have included ISTE, TCEA, TxDLA, MACUL, NCTIES, TCEA ETC, TCCA, TiA, and TXGoo.
Lindsey Morris
Lindsey Morris has over a decade of educational experience in K-12 education, STEM education outreach, adult professional development and higher education. Mrs. Morris currently works as a Learning Experience Designer with higher education faculty and incorporates accessibility into the course design process. Mrs. Morris has presented on accessibility related topics at the Instructional Technology Council, the Florida Instructional Design Network, for Tarrant County College, and for Baylor University.
