Discover some of the most significant new additions to WAI-ARIA 1.1, and how well these properties and values are supported with different assistive technologies.
Abstract
Accessibility of web content requires semantic information about widgets, structures, and behaviors, so assistive technologies (AT) can convey the appropriate information to persons with disabilities who use them. In this regard, continuous efforts have been put in extending the list of WAI-ARIA attributes and properties available to improve the user experience of person with disabilities. WAI-ARIA 1.1 provides additional features that help bridging the gap for accessibility in HTML even further, and aims to meet needs identified for more complex widgets or interactions.

Suman Damera works as a Senior Accessibility Consultant at Deque India. He has around 9 years of diverse experience in Accessibility testing/consulting/training and is officially part of the W3C ARIA working group and also a certified web accessibility specialist(WAS) and Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC). Suman has passion for learning and updating his knowledge on assistive technologies and aims to achieve the best in everything that he does.
