Summary

In this interactive presentation, we will present the accessibility maturity model developed in the SHUFFLE project. It measures the current state of an HEI along 4 categories and provides guidance on how to improve the score. Although designed for universities in Germany, parts of it may be useful for HEIs in other parts of the world. The SHUFFLE maturity model is released with a CC-BY 4.0 license.

Abstract

The SHUFFLE project has developed a maturity model for an assessment regarding the accessibility of Higher Education Institutions. For this purpose, we analysed existing maturity models and harvested a pool of over 100 indicators. Of them, we selected 19 highly relevant indicators in an iterative process, covering the 4 categories structure, strategy, teaching and learning, consulting and support (see graphic at https://cloud.mi.hdm-stuttgart.de/s/eeqqAfd7w884G68).

The SHUFFLE maturity model contains descriptions of relevant indicators, and how to measure them. Also, it contains guidance for every indicator on how to improve its score. Currently, we use an Excel sheet template to conduct a measurement. The result can be graphically depicted in the form of a net diagram (see example at https://cloud.mi.hdm-stuttgart.de/s/xZNzX3zD5MxY26d).

We are currently pilot-testing the first version of the SHUFFLE maturity model. Initial results will be presented at the AHG conference.

SHUFFLE is funded by the German foundation for innovation in Higher Education teaching, and consists of 4 universities in Germany: Stuttgart Media University (lead), university of Bielefeld, educational university of Freiburg, educational university of Heidelberg.
