Summary
Accessible PowerPoint presentations must be boring. Wrong! This hands-on session shows you how to leverage the “bling” in PowerPoint to get your message to your audience clearly. But its not all about the design. PowerPoint has tools for presenters to communicate in multiple languages and get coaching on presentations. You can create your presentation outline in Word and add the design in PowerPoint or use Microsoft Sway for marketing and newsletters. Learn about your options!
Abstract
There are so many options for creating a PowerPoint presentation. You can work on your outline in Word without visual distractions, there is PowerPoint Quick Starter, PowerPoint Designer, PowerPoint Presenter, and PowerPoint coach. On the design side, there is slide master which lets you customize slides and presentations with your own branding or unique presentation style. This hands-on workshop guides you through the options, demonstrates how to use the tools in PowerPoint to add visual interest to presentations without creating accessibility barriers and how to convert your presentation to a tagged PDF…or create an alternate format of Braille or large print.

Karen McCall
Karen McCall, M.Ed. is the owner of Karlen Communications. She has been working in the field of accessible document design since 1999. She began her career in website accessibility and auditing and moved to accessible Word, PowerPoint and PDF documents in 2004. Karen is a Canadian delegate to the ISO 14289 or PDF/UA (Universal Access) and the ISO 32000 PDF committee. She has been a Microsoft MVP for Word (Most Valued Professional) since 2009 and a Microsoft Accessibility MVP since 2017 when this category of MVP was established. Karen has written several books on the topic of accessible document design for Word, PowerPoint and PDF documents as well as smaller publications with specific techniques for working with Office applications if you are using adaptive technology and/or the keyboard.
