Summary
Come learn about the current progress by the ARIA-AT Community Groups efforts to quantify the IRL (in real life) current level of support for ARIA by the various desktop assistive technology. This effort is supported by W3C members, AT manufactures and accessibility professionals in higher education and industry.
Abstract
Over two years ago, multiple groups of accessibility professional proposed plans to help quantify the real-world support for ARIA by the current versions of popular assistive technology. Multiple proposals were made to the W3C and a community group was formed. This group has been working for the past few years on a methodology and framework for evaluating the current level of support for ARIA. Come learn about the progress on this project, future milestones and how to get involved with this important effort which will help impact future versions of assistive technology and accessible web development.

Joe Humbert
Joe Humbert, Senior Accessibility Engineer at The Paciello Group (TPG), brings a breadth and depth of accessibility experience that is both engaging and transformative for organizations applying over 14 years of experience supporting & engaging in accessibility efforts. Joe is a Certified Professional in Web Accessibility (CPWA, 2018) through the IAAP organization. His experience combines implementing accessibility at an institutional level, a technical background in web development and design, as well as an extensive background in Special Education and Accessibility. Before joining The Paciello Group, he spent 13 years working in higher education at two Big Ten universities supporting students, faculty, and staff with disabilities with creating and engaging with accessible content. He believes in and uses a people-centered approach to accessibility. Joe currently serves at the Native Mobile lead at TPG helping clients of all sizes ensure that their mobile applications are accessible to the widest audience regardless of disability.
