Preparation for Pre-Conference Lab Sessions*
Monday workshop: Working with Inaccessible PDFs
Preparation
Please make sure you have a computer with the following software loaded:
Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (get trial version), Acrobat Reader, ABBYY FineReader (get trial version), Balabolka
Tuesday workshop: All About Video
Preparation
Please make sure you have a computer with the following software loaded:
Able Player , iTunes, plus media files provided by the instructors (see Able Player install instructions below)
Other requirements:
- Access to a YouTube account (not just access to the YouTube site, an account on YouTube )
- VLC (https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html)
- Any Video Converter (https://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ — free version is fine)
- Mkv2Mp4 (https://www.videohelp.com/software/MkvToMp4 — this is a portable, no-install, desktop executable)
- MKVToolNix (https://www.fosshub.com/MKVToolNix.html — either the portable or installed version, doesn’t matter which)
- Audacity (https://audacityteam.org/download/windows — we’ll need to be able to export MP3 files. In my experience, if you install VLC first, on Windows, it registers the proper encoders with no extra work. But if this is not the case on the lab machines, please install the LAME encoder, listed on this download page. Audacity should be installed first, then LAME.)
Able Player Install Instructions
- download the latest version from the Develop branch
- Unzip it. That will create a folder called "ableplayer-develop". Rename that to "Able Player" and place somewhere where it can be easily accessed (e.g., the desktop).
- Save jquery-1.11.3.min.js into the "thirdparty" folder inside the Able Player folder.
- Save sample.html and sandbox.html inside the Able Player folder.
*We’ll do our best to provide support during the labs but make no guarantee of your ability to keep up with the pace of the class.

Accessibility
Captioning
All our online events include real-time captioning. We are using Adobe Connect to stream the virtual confernece. The captioning will be transmitted through Adobe’s captioning pod. The video recording of the webcast will be posted with captioning following the event. (This usually takes one to two weeks).
Screenreader Access
Adobe Connect is screenreader accessible, more or less, although access can sometimes be cumbersome. For those using screenreaders, we suggest consulting the following tips for accessing the Connect interface with a screenreader.
Captioning will be presented by default through the captioning pod that is part of the Adobe Connect Interface. Everyone will see this stream located below the PowerPoint/slides window. The caption pod window cannot be removed or resized.
Alternative Caption Stream
In case the caption pod crashes (this has happened rarely in the past), or if you would like to watch the captioning in a window you can resize, use the alternate captioning stream urls below.

Testing your System
To ensure that your system is ready to access the webinar, connect to the following test site: https://my.adobeconnect.com/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm.
CEUs
If you signed up for CEUs you must verify your attendance at sessions by logging into the Virtual Conference sessions with your full name. You cannot claim CEU hours for a session where you have not logged in following these instructions. In addition, you need to fill out and submit this form to indicate the sessions you attended.
Watching the Webinar post-broadcast
The Virtual Conference sessions will be recorded and available with captioning (about 1 to 2 weeks) after the broadcast.
