Summary of Session
With increasing numbers of students with disabilities qualifying for exam accommodations, coordinating and scheduling those exams have become more challenging. We look to show the evolution of our web-based application that not only improves efficiency, but remove barriers for our students as well.
Abstract
The objective of the session is to demonstrate the evolution of a web-based application automating a paper process to utilizing the application as a tool to remove barriers and create less anxiety for our students.
This application was originally created as a collaborative effort between the university’s Application Development Network and the disability services staff to provide an online method for students and faculty to identify and request scheduling of accommodated exams (those requiring extended time, distraction reduced environment, etc.) and for disability services staff to more efficiently manage the requests. With the help and support of the Application Development Network and the Adaptive Computing Technology center, this application is no longer simply being looked at as a way to manage accommodated exams but also manage the production and delivery of alternative texts and provide a case-management system.

Justin Lozano
Justin was the Exams Coordinator at the inception of this web-based application. Now as a Student Services Coordinator, he has been able to use and witness this application both as one who coordinates exams and as one who helps decide reasonable accommodations for students.
Becca Terry
Becca started in our office in an office support staff role, and was promoted to the Exams Coordinator position after Justin became a Student Services Coordinator. As the Exams Coordinator, she has been integral in the next phase of accommodated exam request. She will be able to demonstrate the changes that have occurred, the utilization of the application, and the next exciting updates that version 4 will bring.
