Abstract

The latest JAWS screen reader update introduces a feature that provides enhanced access to Microsoft Word's math editor, supporting Unified English Braille (UEB) math input and output through the MathCat setup. This feature enables users to seamlessly create and edit UEB math content within Word, leveraging the JAWS screen reader in UEB mode. Previously, Nemeth Code had been the standard for Braille math in Word, offering comprehensive editing capabilities. With the addition of UEB math support, users now have more choices, allowing UEB screen reader users to produce complex mathematical content with the same precision and ease that Nemeth Code users have enjoyed for years. This represents a significant advancement in digital math and Braille integration, empowering visually impaired users with greater flexibility in their math creation and editing workflows
