Summary

Members of the Library Accessibility Committee at the tri-institutional Auraria Library in Denver, CO discuss how they have collaborated on projects to provide an inclusive environment within the library. Topics will include: background, special projects, challenges and upcoming initiatives.

Abstract

The purpose of this presentation is to educate attendees on the efforts of the Auraria Library's Tri-Institutional Accessibility Committee and provide ideas on how to collaborate with colleagues in cross-departments to create an inclusive environment. Goals of this presentation include: Share the background of the committee, discuss special projects and how the members have collaborated, discuss challenges that the Library currently has in creating an inclusive environment and upcoming initiatives that the Committee has in store. Time for questions will be given at the end. It is hoped that attendees will walk away with ideas and inspiration on how they can collaborate with their campus library to create an inclusive environment.

Stephanie Robbins

Stephanie Robbins has been with Disability Resources and Services at CU Denver since July 2016. She serves as the Assistive Technology Coordinator, managing the assistive technology computer lab in the suite, ensuring that the equipment in the lab runs smoothly and coordinates the alternative text process. She also provides assistive technology assessments and connects students with technology accommodations. In addition, Stephanie is a member of the Auraria Library's Tri-Institutional Accessibility Committee, providing support and training to staff of the library and patrons on accessibility and disability issues. Stephanie has her Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from New York Institute of Technology and Master of Education in Special Education, Concentration in Assistive Technology from George Mason University.

Jennifer Maxwell

Jennifer Maxwell serves as the Digital Accessibility Coordinator in the Teaching Learning Center at the Community College of Denver. She is also a member of the Auraria Library's Tri-Institutional Accessibility Committee in which she provides education and training in the areas of assistive technology and digital accessibility to students, faculty and staff of the library. Jennifer previously served as the Alternative Media Specialist in the Accessibility Center at the Community College of Denver.

Ryan Turch

Ryan Turch is an IT Professional at the Auraria Library. Ryan graduated from University of Colorado Denver with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music and is pursing a Masters Degree in Digital Media Forensics. Ryan has been serving in the Auraria Library’s Tri-Institutional Accessibility Committee for three years and hopes his work with his committee colleagues helps make the Auraria Library more inclusive to the Auraria Campus community.
