Summary of Session
Utilizing an iPad™, I will be demonstrating reading apps that convert digital and printed materials to support people with print disabilities. I will also be demonstrating how to use writing focused apps as conversion apps when dedicated conversion apps are unable to recognize digital text.
Abstract
Utilizing an iPad™, I will be demonstrating apps or referencing apps that convert digital and printed materials. Voice Dream Reader, Pocket, Prizmo, KNFB Reader, and TextGrabber are some of the apps I will be referencing. I will be showing attendees how to use each app with websites, books, and research documents. In addition to the primary conversion apps I will be demonstrating the apps Voice Dream Writer, and Ginger. These two apps that I will be demonstrating to use as conversion apps when dedicated conversion apps are unable to recognize text. As a person with a print disability, I find it to be vital that I know strategies for when my conversion apps do not work and I have found these apps helpful for when I need printed materials to be converted. Knowing these strategies can support job searches, interview preparation, and support the employment environment through reading and writing emails, assignments, reports, and everyday tasks.
Keypoints
Knowlege of apps to convert print and digital materials
Strategies to convert unaccessble materials
