Summary of Session

Are you mobile applications and website accessible to students and faculty? More and more people are choosing mobile as their platform of choice and worldwide there are more mobile users than desktop users. This BYOD hands-on session will cover all the basics of mobile accessibility.

Abstract

Mobile devices have significantly changed the way that people access content and services, and this opens new opportunities for persons with disabilities. From games to academic papers, mobile devices, phones, tablets, and even new wearable technologies are making it easier for people with disabilities to participate and are opening new ways to do things, like get new feedback from their devices and do new things. Sensors, vibrations, and other feedback leverage everything on the platform for accessibility. New ways of looking at similar problems, are giving opportunities for new innovation. Bring your own mobile device to this BYOD hands-on session to learn about all the basics of mobile accessibility as listed in the key points below:

Kathleen Wahlbin

Kathy Wahlbin is a digital accessibility expert and general manager of The Paciello Group; she has been working in the field of accessibility since 2001. As an invited expert of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Working Group, W3C Mobile Accessibility Task Force, and the WCAG 2.0 Evaluation Methodology Task Force, she regularly contributes to the development of new accessibility standards, guidelines, techniques and methodologies.
