Summary of Session

This presentation will include a functional exploration of what accessibility means when it comes to apps. Specific apps from Fortune 500 companies will be evaluated based on their level of accessibility, or lack thereof. Some apps under consideration are Home Depot, Wal-mart, Target, Apple, and Wells Fargo. Because of the frequency of changes that are made to apps, the specific list of apps for this presentation may be modified.

Abstract

The objective of this presentation is to provide an overview of the needs of people with disabilities. A small number of Fortune 500 apps will be selected. A demonstration will be provided of how these apps may or may not meet the needs of people with disabilities, and how they can be improved.

Speaker Bio(s)

John Rempel

John brings more than 16 years of training experience to AMAC, with certifications and extensive experience as an AT Specialist, Vision Rehabilitation Therapist, and Orientation & Mobility Specialist for individuals with vision loss. He has a visual impairment himself, which has helped him to better understand and appreciate what students and employees with visual impairments experience. As a Quality Control and Training Specialist with AMAC, John assesses individuals' needs, develops training materials for our members, and provides quality control for AMAC training materials and online assistive technology offerings. He also presents and coordinates training courses to AMAC members and professionals in related fields.
