This presentation will review recent case law regarding the OCR investigations into inaccessible EIT available to individuals with disabilities. Participants will be introduced to the steps used in the formation of an Accessible Technology Initiative at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Abstract
The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the audience to the steps taken in the development of an Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). The UTC ATI was developed partially in reaction to the Dear Colleague Letter to ensure that information technology resources and services are accessible to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors at UTC. A review of recent Higher Education litigation will be presented as well as the “Teach Tennessee Act” which would require Tennessee Institutions of higher education to make all electronic instructional materials accessible. Participants will be introduced to the process that led to the development of the ATI on the UTC campus and gain an understanding on how to bring this process to their respected campus.

Bryon Kluesner
Dr. Bryon Kluesner earned his Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management in 1992 from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale (SIU-C). He completed his Master of Science in Rehabilitation Administration in 1998 and his Doctor of Rehabilitation (Rh.D.) in 2003, also from SIU-C.
Dr. Kluesner has been the Adaptive Technology Coordinator in the Disability Resource Center at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) since 2006. In 2008, he received his Assistive Technology Applications Certification (ATAC) from California State University, Northridge.
Dr. Kluesner is a professional member of several organizations pertaining to disability, higher education and assistive technology. He is a member of the Chattanooga Signal Center's Technology Center Advisory Board. Dr. Kluesner also served as the Chair of the Chattanooga Mayor's Council on Disability.
