Abstract
Within the education community, the use of online training represents a significant shift in the learning environment. Diverse in-service training needs, geographically dispersed stakeholders, and dwindling resources all contribute to the need for a shift in how we think about professional development.
In this session, the presenters will discuss how technology may be used to deliver technical assistance and professional development to a variety of audiences. The presenters will provide examples of different technology-based technical assistance and professional development methods and discuss the paradigm shifts that may need to occur so that individuals can gain the most benefit from online training. The presenters will also address how to identify the technology-based services that may be most appropriate to a situation and consider accessibility options when delivering virtual training.

Cindy Camp
Cindy Camp has worked in disability support services for 20 years. She specializes in working with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students. She is an interpreter, C-Print captionist, and C-Print trainer. She has designed and maintains websites for various groups and organizations. She contracts with the Described and Captioned Media Program to enhance access through the use of captions. She heads a group at JSU to establish accessibility standards in online learning and is working to caption materials on our iTunes U site. She has presented at many local, state, and national conferences on topics such as post production captioning, accommodating students in online courses, and accessible technology.
Michelle Swaney
Michelle Swaney is a Technology & Media Specialist for PEPNet 2 and the Center on Deafness at the University of Tennessee. Michelle is RID nationally certified interpreter, Coordinator of the SLPI at the University of Tennessee, and has considerable experience in making online technology accessible for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals. She has 18 years of experience in the field of deafness.
