Summary of Session

New accessibility specialists need guidance to prepare for the future as leaders in implementing user-based accessibility laws and requirements. Here we move from basic tool-using tester, to logical, systematic, and fact-based analyst and advisor.

Abstract

In the past few years, short classes, and use of server-level tools and browser-based toolbars to reduce accessibility risk have brought many people with minimal training to assume responsibility to make applications compliant, although not optimally accessible. This discussion provides a useful group of best practices, political tools, learning lists, and background knowledge to support the accessibility specialist to help designers, developers and project managers into meeting the newer, user-based laws and requirements. It will also help them to manage accessibility in a more controlled way into the future for both their projects and their careers.

Kepoints

  1. Learn to bring quality to your projects and provide leadership to your team.
  2. Learn how to manage expectations and politics within organizations.
  3. Prepare for the future with deeper technical knowledge and leads on changing laws and policies.
