Summary of Session

This session will showcase e-books and e-readers in the iPad/iPhone environment. Side-by-side demonstrations of Apple iBooks and other popular ebook formats and eReader applications will focus on accessibility features and limitations.

Are eBooks and eReaders on mobile devices REALLY the next best thing? Digital books continue to make headlines as potential mainstream solutions for a variety of issues, but how many of these formats and apps are accessible? This session explores the accessibility of an assortment of the most popular eBook applications on the iPad and iPhone. Using native Apple accessibility features and third party application functionality, real world ease of access (or lack of) will be demonstrated.

  1. What are the challenges of accessibility in eBooks and eReaders on the iPad and iPhone?
  2. What built-in Apple functionality facilitates eBook accessibility?
  3. Discover accessible (and not so accessible ) eBook formats and applications in the iPad/iPhone enviornment.
