Abstract

Not convinced your vision impaired students are experiencing the equivalent computer access at your college? Short of Braille & DAISY expertise? Is the sheer volume of inaccessible PDFs giving you a headache? Dolphin\'s Jeff Bazer will talk and walk you through every aspect of delivering an accessible college for ALL your blind and low vision students. By considering the individual needs of 2 learners, Jeff will illustrate practical strategies and specific tools for both college and student. Follow Jeff as he supports: Case study 2: Skye has Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and suffers with light sensitivity, failing colour sensitivity , and loss of peripheral vision. Skye is studying Biology, requires onscreen magnification and the replacement of specific \'lost\' colours. Large print (size 20 font) suits Skye for most text materials, but she prefers MP3 for longer texts. Case study 2: Roger has wet macular disease. He has some eccentric viewing capability, but is a confident Braille reader. Roger is studying modern foreign languages and requires screen access and alternative medias for both the French and Spanish languages. An informal session, Jeff will draw on his own personal experiences of what makes a college truly accessible for students with sight loss . Delivering both practical advice and tips, Jeff will call upon some audience part to assist with delivering an accessible college.
