Summary
Learn how to create and leverage AIM scores, developed by WebAIM, to measure and improve web accessibility. This session covers what an AIM score is, how it is calculated, how to select effective manual testing samples, and how to apply it within a broader accessibility strategy, including a live audit demonstration.
Abstract
Measuring accessibility effectively is a challenge many organizations face. This presentation introduces the AIM score, a methodology developed by WebAIM to provide a more accurate and actionable measure of accessibility than automated testing alone.
Attendees will learn what an AIM score is, how it differs from automated metrics, and why it provides deeper insight into real user impact. We will walk through the AIM scoring methodology, including how issues are identified, weighted, and translated into a meaningful score.
The session will also cover how to select representative samples for manual testing, ensuring results reflect real-world accessibility across a site. To bring these concepts to life, we will conduct a live audit of a webpage, demonstrating how an AIM score is calculated in practice.
Finally, we will explore how organizations can leverage AIM scores as part of a broader accessibility strategy, using them to prioritize fixes, track progress over time, and communicate accessibility performance to stakeholders. We will also review when a full manual audit would be more appropriate.
This session is ideal for teams looking to move beyond surface-level metrics and adopt a more strategic, data-informed approach to accessibility.
