Summary

Every day, digital content designers and marketing professionals publish new web content, create new designs, produce videos and author documents. While this session looks at the creation of accessible. digital content, it dives far deeper into the entire communications process from needs identification to publishing to managing content down the road. This lecture and discussion will provide clarity to content designers not only about the theoretical benefits of accessible digital communications, but also on the entire action list of how to plan, create, deploy and maintain a long-term and sustainable accessible digital marketing assets library.

This session is geared towards web designers, document creators, video producers, UX & graphic designers, their management, marketing management and accessibility/WCAG professionals.

Abstract

Properly creating accessible digital marketing assets must be executed with a well thought out plan. It all starts with an idea, or an objective presented by an internal program or team that needs to be addressed. With that objective in mind, it's time for the marketing team to start thinking about all the various facets of deploying and managing digital marketing assets for everyone to consume.

This session will take content designers and marketers through a digital marketing assets creation journey. We will look at the necessary considerations when creating audience profiles, copywriting consideration, asset design and creation, and how to avoid the pitfalls of making poor assumptions. We will discuss all the various formats of design and content and the options for publishing and how they impact a workflow. We will also look at designers’ options for addressing their present needs as well as their future needs. We will engage in a discussion on AI’s role in accessible digital design and how it will be impacting our industry.

In addition to the tactical actions required to create accessible digital content, we will also look at designers’ professional development options to better prepare them for creating accessible content. We will focus on subjects such as identifying the knowledge and skill levels of various personnel on the team, identifying the training needed to help everyone get on the same page to create a common lexicon within, fitting AI training into a team’s learning trajectory and creating a long-term training plan to keep staff skilled throughout the ever-changing landscape of digital content design. We will also present options on how a designer can demonstrate their proficiency as professional designers to support their future development and career aspirations.
