Summary

Accessibility for Canvas and the Online Environment

Abstract

How can we empower students to independently access course materials?

Faculty curate and create students' learning environment. It is essential to provide faculty the support and guidance needed to help students access and navigate to the information they need. What should faculty do with course materials such as PDFs, Microsoft Documents, and PowerPoints? Are there ways we can help faculty leverage Canvas? How can we scale faculty support in creating an accessible learning environment?

Join Liezl Madrona, CCC Accessibility Center's Instructional Designer Accessibility Specialist and recent Online Education Initiative Instructional Designer, as we explore ways to support faculty in creating an inclusive environment in three steps.

Keypoints

  1. Determine the best format/strategy for delivering content, whether it should remain as a PDF, Word, etc.
  2. Leverage Canvas to create an accessible learning environment
  3. Route faculty to micro-courses to support accessibility professional development
