Summary
The University of Arizona implemented a process for campus-wide captioning which ultimately leads to a more accessible media experience. Through targeted outreach and the use of centralized funding designated to ensure campus access, we advance and prioritize accessible media using a thoughtful, fiscally-conscious method.
Abstract
Captioning - One of the biggest questions on campus is “who’s going to pay for this?” - the Disability Resource Center, the department/unit creating or hosting the media, the Institution? Answer: All of the above!
The University of Arizona (UA) is moving towards a fully captioned campus through a prioritization approach. During this session, learn how the UA approaches captioning and the criteria we use to determine allocation of funds for video captioning. Additionally, discover how successfully building trust and working closely with key personnel across campus units increases access to captioned media. Finally, we will discuss options for developing processes to ensure media is created accessibly across campus.
