Summary

Join the Front Range Community College Digital Accessibility Team to discover real-world workflows that use AI to accelerate remediation. Learn how tools like Claude and ChatGPT can streamline PDF, web, and presentation accessibility when paired with human expertise. Attendees will learn to leverage AI as a powerful assistant—not a replacement—to build more inclusive digital experiences.

Abstract

Remediating digital content is notoriously complex, but Artificial Intelligence is fundamentally changing the landscape. Natasha, Muzamil, and Scott—the Digital Accessibility Team at Front Range Community College—have successfully integrated AI into their daily workflows. However, they've learned a crucial lesson: AI is a powerful assistant, not a replacement for qualified accessibility experts.

In this session, the team will share real-world, practical examples of how AI accelerates their work while keeping the essential "human in the loop."

First, Muzamil will demonstrate how Claude AI dramatically reduces the time required to remediate complex PDF documents. He will highlight exactly where AI excels in the document remediation process, and where human intervention remains critical.

Next, Natasha will showcase how combining screen reader testing with ChatGPT gives her "superpowers" to identify, brainstorm, and eliminate web accessibility barriers at frontrange.edu, leading to simple and elegant code solutions.

Finally, Scott will explore presentation accessibility beyond visual aesthetics. He will discuss how AI can help ensure slide decks deliver 100% of their educational value to students, even asynchronously, by crafting rich alt text and speaker notes that delight all the senses.

Attendees will leave with actionable strategies for using AI to brainstorm complex accessibility issues, streamline their own remediation efforts, and elevate their digital content—all while maintaining the human judgment required for true digital inclusion.

Keypoints

  1. AI tools like Claude significantly reduce the time needed for complex PDF and document remediation.
  2. Combining screen reader testing with ChatGPT accelerates the resolution of web accessibility barriers.
  3. Human expertise is strictly required to validate AI outputs and ensure true digital inclusion.
