Summary

In this presentation, we examine the current legal requirements and industry standards around digital accessibility focusing on video captions, share and analyze the results of a case study measuring the accuracy rates of AI captioning software, and provide insight on how to provide clean, accurate, accessible video captions.

Abstract

As a result of the 2020 Global Pandemic, there has been a rapid increase in online courses and digital educational materials. Educators are legally required to ensure that these educational materials are accessible to those with disabilities. In the case of educational videos, accessibility relies in part on clean and accurate captions. In this presentation, we examine the current legal requirements and industry standards around digital accessibility focusing on video captions, share and analyze the results of a case study measuring AI captioning software accuracy rates, and provide insight on how to provide clean, accurate, accessible video captions, based on our experience.
