Summary
This presentation explores Bard's process to creating remediation services, accessible course materials, and future plans to continue and extend these services across campus.
Abstract
Accommodations and services for obtaining accessible Course Materials at Bard College was almost nonexistent when Andrea began working in 2022. This presentation explores Andrea's journey to creating a process for obtaining Accessible Course Materials for students, and obtaining text-to-speech technology, alongside the creation of remediation services available to faculty, staff, and campus partners for a small, liberal arts college. The presentation will touch on navigating a unique campus culture and creating access with real barriers (resources, budget, campus attitudes, etc.).

Andrea Hoyt
Andrea Hoyt (She/They), is the Accessible Technology Specialist at Bard College's Disability Access Services. They have been working in Disability Services in Higher Education for 8+ years, and she has worked at public and private colleges. In her current role, Andrea works with students to ensure they have access to technology that best fits their needs. They also work with faculty and staff to ensure course materials are accessible and in a format that works for all students. She serves on Bard's Accessibility Working Group Committee and heads the Technology Subcommittee.
