Summary
Accessibility providers at Colorado State University have a long history of collaboration. The recent establishment of the CSU Accessibility Center has strengthened and deepened this collaboration. This session will demonstrate how, under the umbrella of the Accessibility Center, service providers within the Student Disability Center, the Assistive Technology Resource Center, and the Accessible Media Production work together to support students with disabilities at Colorado State University.
Abstract
The Colorado State University Student Disability Center (SDC), Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC), and Accessible Media Production team have a long history of collaboration. The recent establishment of the CSU Accessibility Center has strengthened and deepened this collaboration. The SDC provides accommodation services, support, education, and consultation to the campus community to ensure people with disabilities have a greater opportunity to achieve social justice and equity. The ATRC works to ensure that CSU students and employees are aware of and can access assistive and mainstream technology, provides consultation, education, and advocacy regarding inclusive design, and promotes best practices for assistive technology support in higher education. Accessible Media Production provides accessible text formats, captioning, and audio descriptions for course materials. This session will demonstrate how, under the umbrella of the Accessibility Center, service providers within all three centers work together to support students with disabilities at Colorado State University. To demonstrate the power of collaboration among campus accessibility partners, presenters will offer several case studies illustrating this model in action.

Michelle Brodsky
Michelle is an occupational therapist working in the Colorado State University Assistive Technology Resource Center. She serves CSU employees and students with disabilities by identifying and implementing assistive technology to support their participation in work and education. She also educates campus members on the importance of accessible electronic materials and universal design. Her practice is anchored in equity, diversity, and inclusion. Michelle has also worked as a school-based occupational therapist and as a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She has two grown children and enjoys dog training, partner dancing, yoga, and exploring all the beauty of Colorado.
Joe Tiner
Joe oversees all aspects of the accommodations process and supervises the Accommodations Specialists. Additionally, he provides training and consultation to faculty and staff to support the implementation of accommodations and enhance campus accessibility.
Joe is a disabled first-generation college graduate. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from CSU. During his time as a student Joe worked for the SDC where he found his passion for disability rights work. Prior to his current role, Joe worked as an Accommodations specialist. In addition to his work at the SDC, he has held a few different roles at CSU, including positions at the Assistive Technology Resource Center, Office of Support and Safety Assessment, and with the Student Success Initiatives. Outside of work Joe enjoys live music and theatre, baking, and spending time with his husband and friends.
