Abstract
In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, ensuring accessibility for all individuals is critical and deeply intertwined with DEI. Verbit, a leader in transcription and captioning services, collaborates with Crafton Hills Community College and California State University at Northridge (CSUN) to explore innovative solutions for overcoming accessibility hurdles and integrating DEI principles into educational settings. This joint session will begin by highlighting the accessibility services provided by Crafton Hills and CSUN, showcasing their approaches and successes. The importance of DEI in accessibility will be emphasized, moving into a detailed case study from CSUN’s Africana Studies department. This case study will illustrate how prioritizing accessibility without a DEI understanding inadvertently hindered the classroom experience and how the partnership with Verbit helped address this issue. Key insights will be shared on strategies for integrating DEI principles into accessibility initiatives, focusing on maintaining accuracy and inclusivity in multimedia content through services like captioning and audio descriptions.
The session will conclude with an exploration of the AI toolbox, highlighting the latest advancements in AI technology tailored to enhance accessibility. This includes automated transcription, captioning, and adaptive learning tools designed to foster inclusivity and support diverse learning needs.
