This session begins with an overview of the importance (and the law!) of why documents should be made accessible from the beginning. With faculty increasingly relying on content management systems to deliver course content and distance education courses on the rise, the number of electronic documents posted are increasing and many lack basic accessibility. Likewise, libraries provide electronic reserves and journals that often require assistance in order for students print-related disabilities to access them. Beyond curriculum access, offices such as admissions and human resources post online forms that must be accessible in order for any prospective and current students and faculty with various disabilities to complete them. Accessible documents don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t just serve the campus community with disabilities but the entire campus as they offer ease of use, greater compatibility with mobile technology, etc. We will cover the the basics of how to prepare accessible Word and PowerPoint documents. We will review the creation of accessible PDF documents with Adobe Acrobat and accessible form creation with LiveCycle Designer. An overview of the built-in technology for accessibility testing will also be covered. Finally, we will provide resources for third party solutions to accessible documents. |
