Two Colorado State University presenters will demonstrate a department-level captioning process based on tools readily available to faculty, such as Microsoft Word, Camtasia Studio and Handbrake. This model will be compared to other higher education captioning models.
Abstract
In this session you will learn how one academic department (Occupational Therapy) at Colorado State University is tackling the vexing issue of video captioning using a do-it-yourself model. We will share with you the lessons we have learned during our first year of implementing an ambitious goal of captioning all instructional videos using tools readily available to faculty such as Microsoft Word, Camtasia Studio and Handbrake.

Craig Spooner
Craig Spooner is the Professional Development Coordinator for two federally-funded projects related to transition and UD. He has an MA in Training and Learning Technologies, with expertise in the instructional design process, web and multimedia tools, and video production. He has conducted numerous presentations and trainings on UDL, including EDUCAUSE conferences in 2010 and 2011. He is a co-author of ?Student Perceptions of Faculty Implementation of Universal Design for Learning? in the Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability (Schelly, et al., 2011).
