Abstract |
This session will cover the basics of captioning for accessible online video, including captioning background, terminology, and applicable accessibility laws, as well as best practices around creating captions, the use of different captions formats, video player compatibility, impact of HTML5 and mobile devices on captioning, workflow options, and integrated captioning with lecture capture systems and video platforms. Many organizations have discovered that captions and transcripts provide a lot of benefits beyond accessibility, especially in the context of online video. Captions and transcripts make video searchable, navigable, more engaging, and SEO-friendly. We will discuss these benefits and demonstrate the latest interactive web technologies that take captioning and transcription to a whole new level. |
