Summary

We will share best practices for web accessibility from other universities, and review strategies for converting and publishing PDF documents to HTML. Learn how colleges have used the Equidox solution across campus to streamline disability services management, as well as enhance instructional design to ensure accessibility of online courses.

Abstract

PDFs present unique challenges to disability services and instructional designers. What are the pros and cons of maintaining PDFs and how can we make them more accessible to ensure student success? How can establishing new processes for content creators and faculty save time and improve productivity? We will look at best practices in web accessibility from other universities, and discuss new formats like HTML and why providing these formats improves accessibility campus wide. Disability services will hear about colleges that use the Equidox solution to reduce time spent manually converting PDFs by up to 60%. Instructional Designers will hear how universities are converting PDFs to WCAG 2.0 AA compliant HTML that can be imported into a CMS or LMS. Learn how to work with faculty to make scanned documents and image-based documents more accessible, and discover workflow ideas to help automate the conversion of inaccessible content across campus departments.
