Summary of Session
We will present recently decided cases of general interest to disability services personnel at the postsecondary level, with a particular emphasis on cases involving issues related to assistive technology.
Abstract
Universities` responsibilities to qualified students with disabilities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (as amended) are often misunderstood. We hope to bring some clarity to a number of issues, especially those related to assistive technology and auxiliary aids and services, through a discussion of recent decisions from OCR offices around the country. We will place some emphasis on elements of the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 in the discussion.
Kepoints
Clear understanding of the requirements of the Section 504 and Title II regulations.
Indications of the kinds of questions to be asking of your institution`s disability services procedures and practices.
