In this session we will be presenting an automated sampling method and system for web accessibility assessment. Case Studies and quantitative analysis will also be covered.

Currently many web sites are still inaccessible due to challenges in implementing accessibility. Primarily accessibility testing being effort intensive task. To mitigate this challenge one of the industry best practice used is ‘Sample Assessment’. Identifying sample set of pages needs highly skilled accessibility expert and is a complex task as chances of repetitive selection and errors are high. In this talk we will be presenting an innovative automated sampling method and system. The engine performs attribute based sampling by identifying the elements / widgets present, number of occurrences, and interaction pattern of assistive technology users. Based on our experiment with 9 large public websites, set of sample pages selected were 9% to 11%. Sample size selected is indirectly proportion to the size of the website, larger the size of website smaller is the sample set. The benefits of sampling in the large website is more as compared to the smaller website. To conclude, this automated sample assessment methodology has helped us with high accuracy of compliance coverage resulting in effort and cost saving in first phase of accessibility testing.
